What's the deal with Hammond? He seemed to have carried the team a couple years ago and now is on the outside looking in.

Whoever the Sens goalie coach/scout has done a really good job. Hogberg while erratic looked a lot like young Pekka Rinne.

How many "regular" NHLers did the Leafs have last night compared to the Sens again?

God - even when I try to admire what the Leafs have going on right now, their fans frustrate me so much it makes me hate them... Gotta love people getting so salty over preseason GO SENS GO

Also, Jared completely unrelated to my Leafs trolling... Can we get some thoughts on this Duchene speculation? What we could be offering for him etc. even if it is reported we're not even close to a deal. I'm assuming the sum of the parts would not be equal to what we would be getting, but an elite center is something we haven't had since Spezza in his prime? Curious to hear other thoughts

There's still no Leafs blog up after last night's game and they're usually very quick. I guess it's taking a bit longer than usual to spin another loss into something positive for the Leafs fan base: 'Did you see that Marleau goal??!!'

it's preseason, nobody should take this seriously. vets are slowly getting back in game shape. preseason is fun to watch the young guys that are trying to prove something while vets just take it easy

Who knows what it would be but I think it starts with Cody Ceci and builds from here.

Ceci a prospect (not named Chabot, White, Brown or Claesson) and a draft pick I think should get the deal done. But Sakic's asking price for anyone seems to be crazy. So,who knows.

I agree, good opportunity to see the guys we typically don't get to see. I think preseason can lull some fans into thinking their team is greater than it is, or vice versa. Basically you watch to see if players can skate and hope they don't get injured a la White

Not a heck of a lot of to tack away from these preseason games. I have liked Hodberg and Taylor in goal the last couple of games. Hammond is on his way out and the Condon signing will look a little silly soon.

Chabot was ok the other night. I was really impressed with Brown in the first period last night. Seems to have great offensive instincts. I'd actually prefer his style in the lineup rather than White.

Too early to be worrying about injuries. Karlsson will be fine by November at the latest, but I assume he will heal quickly. He's the only guy you need to be concerned about. We go as far as he takes us.

I agree with you 100% and am just joking around - I just had a good laugh after the first game when people were calling the Sens out for dressing all the regulars blah, blah, blah

Depending on the deal I would swap Ceci + parts for Duchene as long as Claesson isn't involved in that package

Yeah makes no sense, the teams were basically even in that regard I'm stoked for when the games actually matter

I;m not sure Ceci has the same value he had a couple years ago.

So, White and Brassard likely out Opening night.

Think that means someone gets the call up, however briefly?

Could be interesting to see Chlapik get a few games, even if he likely needs some more time.

He is still a top 4D, and young. I think it depends on what the other parts are. Sakic's asking price seems to be absolutely crazy. BG was reporting that he was asking Ceci + Chabot and 1 or 2 first round picks... That is just stupid.

I would say Ceci plus a 1st or something like that is a starting point. But to me there are a few prospect names that are absolutely off the table.

I can't imagine Sakic is dealing from a point of strength either. Both the Avalanche and Duchene want him gone before opening night you would have to think. They are starting fresh and don't need this as a distraction in the locker room..

I agree, but I also don't think Sakic is thinking very clearly on this one. he's had the same asking price for two years now and all reports say that he's sticking with it.

As Bob McKenzie stated - in Boucher's system, the right D goes to retrieve the puck while the left guy steps up. The right side are strong puck movers and skaters in Karlsson, Ceci, and Wideman.

Just my hunch: Playing Chabot on the right side is part of this.
IF Ceci is moved for Duchene - then expect this top 4 to start the year to be the following:

Odyua - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Chabot

Dorion asked Phaneuf to waive his no movement clause in June - something I believe was to save Methot and then try to make a move + sign a bigger free agent D-man on the right side. I'm not suggesting Shattenkirk but who knows

If I'm Sakic I'm asking for Chabot. I have to wonder whether it would make sense from an Ottawa perspective to move Chabot but talk about a bigger deal that includes Landeskog AND or a Barrie. The Sens need to make a push here for the cup - they were one top 3 forward away from being true contenders last year. I really like the new wave of young players coming, but they also got new contracts coming, especially with Karlsson
